The Conferral of the Degree of Doctor Honoris Oeconomiae Causa upon Professor Hans-Werner Sinn at the University of Economics, Prague
Professor Hans-Werner Sinn is an internationally renowned scientist in the field of Macroeconomics and Economic Policy, and he is one of the most influential economists alive today. As few economist have done,he influenced economic and political debate during the past quarter century in Germany, and also in the wider Europe. Professor Sinn‘s professional activities not only contribute to the development of the science of economics, but also serve to focus the attention of the wider public on economics.
His professional and public activity in the field of economic policy is associated, in recent years especially, with the IFO-Institute at the University of Munich, where he was president from 1999 to 2016. Under his leadership, he managed to make the Institute one of the most prominent European research organizations. During his rich scientific career he has published over 140 scientific articles, including over 80 texts in leading international journals, including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Public Economics, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. Professor Hans-Werner Sinn belongs among the most cited of German scientists.
On the basis of a proposal by the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Economics from 17thFebruary, 2016, the Scientific Board of University of Economics has taken, on 26th April, 2016, the decision to confer the degree of “Doctor Oeconomiae Honoris Causa” upon Professor Hans-Werner Sinn. Professor Sinn will be conferred with the honorary degree in a ceremony on 23rd February, 2017 at 16:30 in the Vencovského Aula of the University of Economics, Prague.
