VŠE scores in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020
The University of Economics, Prague scored in the prestigious international ranking of universities of the British company Quacquarelli Symonds QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 in two fields of the area of education Social science and management. In the field of Economics and Econometrics it ranked 201 – 250 and in the field of Accounting and Finance 250 – 300.
The aim of the ranking is to provide information to applicants about the top universities in individual fields. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 ranked a total of 1,369 universities from 158 countries in 48 fields covered by 5 major areas of education.
The ranking focuses primarily on the reputation of disciplines/fields among academics (Academic Reputation) and employers (Employer Reputation), as well as the quality of the results of scientific work, measured by an average Citation per Paper and H- index. The Scopus database is used to assess scientific performance. The evaluation respects the specifics of individual fields and the weight of criteria varies. In the field of Accounting & Finance, for example, the reputation among the professional public is crucial and the reputation criteria are 80% weighted; in the field of Economics & Econometrics, more emphasis is placed on research activities. The weight of the reputation in the case of Economics and Econometrics is 60% and 40% of the evaluation represents publication performance.
In the area of education Social science and management, only two Czech universities, VŠE and Charles University, scored. The good news is especially that both universities have improved their ranking and are ranked ‘very high’ in the field of Research.
